Multimedia II: Week 14

Even though this movie was incredibly long i decided to try to watch it. I have never learned much about the holocaust coming from private school so i thought it would be good to take the time on this film. It took a few breaks to get through the three hours but i made it through the whole thing. I was not very fond of the movie being in black and white but i guess it suits the story line and shows the little girl in the red coat much better. The movie was very sad and i learned a lot about what happened during these times. It is heartbreaking to watch the children being pulled from their mothers, separated from everything they have ever known. I couldn’t believe children that tiny were running around, alone, looking for places that they could hide. Social implications are visible everywhere in this movie. You can see the difference in how certain people are treated just because they are Jews. The way those “in charge” act towards the people in the camps is terrible. It is almost like no one recognizes they are still people. I find it crazy to believe they could just walk into your home and take you, just like that your entire world is ripped apart. I can not even imagine what it was like during that time for the Jews. They had to live every single day in fear if they would make it to the next. My heart was breaking in the end when they present Schindler with the ring and he breaks down wishing he had tried to do more for them.
